Preparing your body and your mind for childbirth
Giving birth, regardless of it being your first or one of many, is a subject that can conjure up visions of unsurmountable pain and fear for expectant mothers. Horror stories abound in folklore, gossip, social media, newspapers and online forums, not to mention often less than comforting anecdotes from friends and family!
Not always, but more often than not, Western society teaches women to fear birth and to expect pain, when in fact many cultures take birthing in their stride and because they expect a calm natural birth - that's usually what they get.
What is Hypnobirthing?Hypnobirthing is a wonderful antenatal training program for expectant mothers using hypnotherapy, relaxation and breathing techniques aimed at keeping the birthing process as natural and gentle as possible. Hypnobirthing teaches women how to remain calm, relaxed and in control during labour and childbirth, trusting their bodies to birth easily and naturally. Hypnobirthing helps you to be prepared and to know what your options are, whichever way the birth goes.
What is Mindful Hypnobirthing or Mindful Birthing?Mindful birthing is hypnobirthing with a wonderful touch of mindfulness training. Mindfulness is a very simple form of meditation. It’s about observation without criticism or judgement, being compassionate, kind and understanding with yourself. Mindful Birthing allows you to experience labour as intense physical sensations that rise, peak and pass. Using meditation to stay focused during childbirth will give you the mental and physical stamina for a successful outcome.
Who is Hypnobirthing suitable for?Mindful Hypnobirthing is suitable for all women, regardless whether the birth is expected to be straightforward or not. For expectant mothers who need medical interventions such as a C-section, instrumental assistance (forceps or ventouse) or an induction, techniques learned during mindful hypnobirthing classes can help you to remain in control at a time when you can be at your most tense or anxious. Hypnobirthing doesn’t require any particular belief system or prior experience, some women are sceptical at first until they actually experience it for themselves.
Celebrities like Gisele Bundchen, Jessica Alba, Fearne Cotton, The Duchess of Cambridge and more recently TOWIE's Billie Faiers and Ferne McCann have all used hypnobirthing as natural controlled way of bringing their beautiful babies safely into the world.
When can I start?
The ideal time to begin a mindful hypnobirthing class is between 18 – 30 weeks of pregnancy. Each course comprises 3x 2 hour classes.
How big are the classes? Our hypnobirthing classes are intimate and personal with just 2/3 couples or individuals at each session.
Do I have to be part of a class? Not at all! Private 1-2-1 sessions are extremely popular, especially for couples who have circumstances they would prefer not to discuss in a class situation.
